Seven Locks is proud to have some of the finest swim coaches in Montgomery County.

For Summer 2007, once again our Head Coach is  our very own Claire Wolf.  You may remember Claire from her 12 years swimming for the Seven Locks Sharks. (Check the record boards, her name may still be there!) Claire is a 2006 graduate of George Washington University, where she completed her masters degree in elementary education. Claire currently works as a 4th grade teacher in Montgomery County. She also has experience coaching the Juniors and Mini groups of RMSC at the Montgomery Aquatic Center. Her many years of swimming experience include Curl Burke, RMSC, and Captain of the Churchill High School Swim Team. Claire looks forward to a winning season and ensuring that the kids have as much fun on the team as she did.

Our Assistant Head Coach for 2007 is Erik Taubeneck.  Eric is a student at American University and a member of their swim team.  Welcome Erik!  We are also happy to announce that Regis Fox will be our Junior Coach for 2007.  Welcome Regis!

Questions and Answers from the Coaches:

Greetings from the Coaches!!

Welcome to another season at Seven Locks Pool! Seven Locks Swim Team will be participating in Division C this year in the Montgomery County Swim League. The coaches this year will be Head Coach Claire Wolf, Assistant Coach Erik Taubeneck, Assistant Coach Colleen Law and Junior Coach Sarah Olson. Before the season starts we would like to provide additional information and answers to questions that we have been receiving.

Question: What if I know that my child will be missing a meet, swim team event or several practices?

Answer: Please inform the coaches ahead of time if your child/children will be missing any meets, events or practices. Please keep the coaches updated about vacation schedules so that they can plan accordingly for both A and B meets. If your child will be missing "Time Trials", please inform the coaches so that he or she can be timed informally during practice.

Question: When is the best time to speak to the coaches?

Answer: Please try to speak to the coaches either before or after practices. Coaches must give swimmers full attention during practice in order to provide a safe, fun and productive swimming environment. Also, please e-mail Claire at ClaireEWolf@yahoo.com with any questions or suggestions.

Question: I would like to register for group or private swimming lessons. How do I do that?

Answer: The coaching and lifeguard staffs will be teaching private lessons this summer. Each private lesson is 30 minutes long and costs $30. Please speak directly to a specific coach or lifeguard in order to arrange for private lessons. Group lessons will be coordinated by Erik Taubeneck this year. Please sign up for group lessons on the posted registration sheet. Group and private lessons are perfect for a child who needs to receive extra instruction in order to make a smooth transition onto the pre-team or the swim team.

Question: When are Time Trials? What are Time Trials? Who comes to Time Trials? What does my child need to do?

Answer: The schedule for Time Trials will be announced shortly.  These will be held at the pool in early June.  Please arrive promptly at 8am to allow for sufficient warm-up time. Time Trials is a "practice" meet where swimmers will be timed in all regular A and B meet events. Every swim team member should come to Time Trials. Swimmers do not need to sign-up -- all they need to do is show up!

Question: Who swims in the A-Meets? When do coaches post the line-up?

Answer: The times from Time Trials will be recorded in a computer database. The coaches will use these times to determine placement for Saturday morning A-Meets. The fastest (and legal!) three swimmers in each event will swim in the first Saturday morning A-Meet. The fastest six swimmers will be taken for 8 and under, 9-10 and 11-12 freestyle events. The coaches will post the A-meet lineup every Thursday morning. The lineup will change each week according to new times posted in the A and B meets from the prior week, so please check the bulletin board every Thursday!!

Question: Who swims in the B-Meets? How do I register my child for a B-Meet?

Answer: All swimmers who do not swim in a Saturday morning A-Meet may swim in a Wednesday evening B-Meet. Swimmers who place 1st-5th in an A-Meet event may not swim that event in the following B-Meet. Swimmers who place 6th-12th (no ribbon) in an A-Meet may swim that event in the following B-Meet. If a regular A-Meet swimmer would like to swim an event in a B-Meet in order to achieve a specific time or swim an "off-event", they may swim EXHIBITION (no ribbon) only with coach’s permission. Swimmers should sign-up for each B-Meet on a sign-up sheet posted on the bulletin board. Sign-up sheets will be posted every Thursday morning. Please sign up for B-Meets no later than Tuesday evening (the day before a B-Meet). Please consult with coaches in order to sign your child up for the appropriate events.

Question: When does pre-team start? Who will coach pre-team? Who can join pre-team? Can my child move up to the regular swim team in the middle of the season? Can pre-teamers swim in B-Meets?

Answer: Pre-team will start on Monday, June 18th. Pre-team will run from 3:30-4pm on Mondays-Thursdays. All Seven Locks swim team coaches will coach pre-team. Any child who is reasonably comfortable in the water can join the pre-team. The coaches only ask that the child be able to swim a few strokes unassisted and kickboard unassisted. Yes, your child can definitely move up to the regular swim team when ready. Yes, pre-teamers may swim events in B-Meets (including a kickboard race which is held at home meets).

Please don't hesitate to ask any other questions! Enjoy the Season!
